Call For Abstracts - Annual Meeting

Calling All UHMS Associates,

Our trial run of combining the Associates/BNA and the main membership meeting at last year’s ASM in Maui was a major success and received very positive feedback. It provided everyone the opportunity to attend the main sessions and we also had a large percentage of our abstracts accepted for oral presentation in the main sessions. Due to this successful experience we are planning to join forces again for the ASM in Salt Lake City, this coming June.

All abstracts are to be submitted according to the official call for abstracts posted on the UHMS website and channeled through the ASM Scientific Program Committee. The Program Committee is being chaired this year by Lin Weaver, MD, and other committee members include Jim Holm, MD, other physicians, a BNA representative, and myself. The abstract submission deadline is February 15, 2008. There will be a $50 late fee for late submissions and/or changes requested after the deadline, so please submit on time. As indicated in the call for abstracts, all abstracts must be submitted as poster presentations and may also be invited to present orally in the main meeting. For those of you unfamiliar with the poster presentation format, the primary author is expected to stand by their poster during their assigned session and be available to discuss the project with interested viewers. Even if you are not invited to present your abstract orally in the main meeting, all accepted Associate abstracts will be given the opportunity to do so in one of several Associate break-out sessions. PLEASE NOTE: To be considered for an Associates Excellence in Presentation Award, you must present your abstract orally in one of the breakout sessions. This is due to judging constraints while also providing a less stressful environment in which to present and be judged by a panel of your peers. All Associates who submit an accepted abstract will be contacted and arrangements made to schedule your oral presentation during one of our break-out sessions, if that is your desire.

Never written an abstract before?  Click here for more information.

The process for determining the presentation awards will remain unchanged. All abstracts will be pre-judged by Noel Jett's Awards Committee on the basis of content, clarity and conformity to established abstract writing standards/guidelines. The oral presentations will then be judged at the meeting and the scores combined to give the total overall scores used in determining the 1st and 2nd Place Associates Excellence in Presentation Awards. 1st Place is awarded $750 and 2nd Place is awarded $500, so share your research with your fellow colleagues by submitting and presenting an abstract!

Please contact me if you have any questions. Hope to see you in Salt Lake City!
